A compensator redirects gas upward to counter the rotation that lifts the muzzle after each shot -- less rise, faster sight return, tighter split times. The Walther PDP has a threaded barrel, and a compensator threads directly onto the muzzle. On a striker-fired pistol already set up with competition ergonomics and a clean trigger, the compensator is the modification that addresses what physics still introduces after the shot: the muzzle moving away from the target before the next shot is fired.
